brushed his tail lightly over Bluefur’s shoulder”
Naughty Pinestar. –waggles finger-
“The taste of water and stone and earth”
I’m pretty sure there’s no dirt down here, so I’m wondering what could pass for earth besides the stone.
“His scent was lost in the jumble of strange odors”
..and yet you’d think she’d know the smell of water and rock pretty well, they’re very common things. And I imagine a cat, as a living thing, smells quite different. So…does her sense of smell suck or what?
“The stone reached several tail-lengths high, sparkling like countless dewdrops and illuminating the cave like a captured star.”
The Moonstone shall henceforth be known as the Holy Disco Ball.
“wondered if sunshine filled the cavern the way moonshine did now.”
Hee hee. I imagined the cave filled with illegal whiskey.
And she dreams of drowning. Yay.
“Had she just tasted the truth of the prophecy?”
Maybe, although I’ll admit I don’t know what truth tastes like. Pudding maybe?
Chapter 19
“Goldenpaw flicked her tail across his ears.”
Butt-facing has become so popular.
“At least in battle you knew where you stood”
Unless you can’t see.
“Swiftbreeze quickly tugged him back by his tail”
Supercats, oh how they fail.
Lots of stuff not worth mentioning happened. Namely Blue Sue worrying about Pinestar and encountering Oakheart.
Leopardfoot begins to have her kits. Yawn.
“Has he forgotten Leopardfoot is having his kits?”
Of course. Because, you know, he just has so many she-cats going…
“Was he just being squeamish?”
Nah, he just wants to chill with his other girls.
Waiting for the kits to be born.
They are born. Whoo.
Then Mr. Crazypants (Goosefeather) says that the kits may not make it through the night.
…no. I don’t care. I never did. These cats aren’t interesting characters. They’re cardboard cutouts with fur or they’re stupid and we hate them. Occasionally one is semi-interesting, but this is rare.
Heck, MY cat is more interesting than these ones, and all she does is eat, sleep, be petted, and accumulate fat and fur

Blue Sue gets a bad stomachache. Hurrah!
“Why did ThunderClan seem to have the laziest, dumbest medicine cat?”
It’s a sign from StarClan saying how much you all fail.
“”Evil omens everywhere.””
This is Goosefeather, and it gives me silly thoughts. Evil omens in his fur? Evil omens lined up in single file around camp wearing top hats? Evil omens on an apprentice’s claw that they chew out of nervousness?
He’s commenting on Leopardfoot’s hard birth and the fact that Blue Sue and two apprentices have stomachaches. I really don’t think those things count as evil omens everywhere.
“He leaned toward her, his breath stinky in her face.”
Of course, everybody knows that crazy hobos medicine cats always have stinky breath. No one else does, so they have to.
More unremarkable stuff happens.
“How could he? He was their leader, for StarClan’s sake!”
Blue Sue has (of course) figured out that Pinestar is visiting kittypets. Now I would like to point out that there are no laws against talking to kittypets. They’re disliked and looked down upon, but there’s no rule saying you can’t talk to them. Heck, Blue Sue and her sister did it when they were with Featherwhisker (supposedly scaring kittypets away from the catmint he was picking) without blinking.
And as we all know, Graystripe does it in the first book. Much to our dismay.
Inconsistency anyone?
I mean really. What’s he doing? Nothing that threatens her or the Clan. So he’s talking to them. So what? He’s a bit distracted, so what? I say Bluey should leave him alone.
“She wasn’t the only cat in ThunderClan questioning Pinestar’s loyalty. But she supposed she was the only one who knew just how far from the warrior code he was straying.”
…no one is questioning his loyalty, he hasn’t even done anything bad. So he didn’t visit Leopardfoot right off the bat after her kits were born. Most cat fathers don’t. Most cat dads have nothing or very little to do with their kits, like Stormtail, Blue Sue’s father. This is natural.
Besides, I’m with Pinestar. Even the kittypets have to be better than the loser Clan he leads.
Oh, and if anyone's interested, the last law in the warrior code "Thou shalt not be a kittypet" hasn't been made yet. It IS made later on because Pinestar decided to be a kittypet.
So. Yeah.

Wait. Did the Erins intentionally give Bluefur and Snowfur the same suffix, or was it a goof on (presumably Tui's) part?
Also, I hate the specific rules in the warrior code. It completely defeats the purpose of the code in the first place. It's not a set of laws that you can find loopholes in. It's a way of life.

No that was intentional. It doesn't bother me much, but it can get a bit confusing.
That's interesting. I think of it as both a set of rules and a way of life. But that topic needs its own thread. Perhaps I shall make it.

I think it's kinda odd how they had the same suffix. It is sort of sweet but eh. Personally I like it better when a cat earns their mentor's suffix, like how Whitestorm mentored Sandpaw and she became Sandstorm. But I suppose that's slightly off-topic :s
At least it wasn't Bluefur and something ridiculous like Snowjesus.

Blue Sue gets to lead a patrol. Yippee.
Thistlepaw is on it and shows that he is an utter idiot by messing up her attempts to catch prey. While I know he doesn’t like her and this is normal behavior for him, it’s dumb because he’s an apprentice and last I checked the warrior code, apprentices aren’t allowed to eat until they’ve hunted (or assisted in a hunt) to feed the elders.
So stopping Blue Sue from catching prey really isn’t doing him any favors. As well as getting him in trouble with his mentor, and then Blue Sue puts him on guard duty to watch out for adders when they get to Snakerocks and to defend their prey if a predator comes by.
No, I don’t get it either. They can just bury their prey like they always do, and I think they can all see, hear, and smell perfectly well. But of course, it wouldn’t be fair if he didn’t get punished.
A dog comes along. Maybe we’ll get lucky and it’ll kill Blue Sue.
“The blood tang must already be singing on its tongue.”
Singing blood. Yes. Someone please explain to me how this makes any sense whatsoever.
No such luck. Everyone escapes, AND keeps their prey. StarClan forbid they endure a bit of tough luck. -.-
And the dog follows them. Whoo.
Thistlepaw displays his immense virtues of stupidity and recklessness by FIGHTING. THE. DOG.
“he swiped a forepaw across its muzzle”
Why is this forepaw still attached to his leg?
“This time Thistlepaw swerved, diving under its belly and twisting to rake it with hind claws.”
…so he ducked under it and flipped upside down to scratch it with his back paws? What is this I don't even.
“The dog howled with rage, but Thistlepaw was ready, rearing up, his claws glistening with blood. He swiped again at the dog’s muzzle, batting it with blow after blow until the dog began to back away.”
The idiocy of these sentences is beyond words. Thistlepaw should be dead, or at the very least severely incapacitated. The dog should have handed him his stupid fuzzy behind on a plate and continued on to chomp on the other two. This is what dogs do.
This is madness.
*pause for dramatic effect*
This. Is. WARRIORRRRRRRS!
“Thistlepaw hissed, aiming a vicious swipe that missed the snapping jaws by a whisker but sliced open the dog’s nose.”
No, I don’t know how that works. If his paw had been close enough to its nose to cut it when it hit, the dog’s mouth would have gotten his paw, easy. Therefore Thistlepaw is a zombie.
““How big was it?” Poppydawn breathed. “Bigger than a badger.” Thistlepaw mewed.”
Yes folks, an apprentice beat the crap out of a dog more than three times his size. Ain’t fiction great?
““He fought a dog?” Mumblefoot gasped. “No cat’s tried that since LionClan walked the forest.”
Just in case you all wanted any more proof that he’s a really stupid, really reckless Zombie Stu. I don’t know why, he’s supposed to be the bad guy in this book. Yet the Erins are giving him superpowers.Why.
Of course he gets his warrior name. What else would BlunderClan do?
Thistleclaw is congratulated by Snowfur first.
Bluefur angsts about how he’s too proud and arrogant and angsts about Snowfur liking him.
“If Snowfur had to find a mate, why couldn’t she pick a cat that Bluefur actually liked?”
That is breathtakingly selfish of you, Blue Sue. I mean. I am impressed by what a terrible person you are.

Singing. Like the word "singe" i.e. to scorch. Still a bizarre image.

"Singing" as in "singe" makes even less sense. I just don't even know what they were on anymore.

I never realised how much of a selfish brat Bluestar was before reading this. It's interesting. I wonder if it was intentional, considering how calm and wise and fair she's potrayed as a leader in the first few books?

Sweetpaw dies. It is sad.
At least Blue Sue shows grief and loss; it’s more than Firefail ever did, may he die in agony.
Then Blue Sue asks the following question.
““But Sweetpaw’s not a warrior.” She breathed. “Will she be allowed to join StarClan?”"
Wait. What? This makes NO sense. Does StarClan have a qualifying exam cats have to take before they join that we didn’t know about? Is there a test? Do you have to prove your idiocy and helplessness somehow? Do they discriminate if you’re not a sue/stu?
Do you…no, wait, there’s the Dark Forest for “evil” kitties. But I suppose she wouldn’t know about that. Still. It’s a dumb question, especially because StarClan are supposed to be so good kind and wonderful that they let everyone who is nice and fluffy join.
Featherwhisker’s answer isn’t much better.
““Of course,” Featherwhisker mewed. “She was born a Clan cat. StarClan will welcome her.”
While I know that yes, StarClan is just for Clan cats (supposedly, there’s some debate about that topic) this makes me wonder. What about the current ThunderClan, which is infested with kittypets and loners? Will they not go to StarClan? Will Firestar not? Oh please let there be a special hell for Firestar. Please.
“Poppydawn touched the top of his head lightly with her tail.”
Thistleclaw’s mom must not like him much if she’s facing him with her butt.
“If no cat trusted Goosefeather anymore, was Bluefur foolish to believe in his prophecy?”
Yes, yes you are. Even if it is a real one. There is no sane reason WHY it is a real one besides being a plot device, but it is a real one.
“She could not bear to see anther cat prepared for their journey to StarClan.”
Yep, that’s an actual typo. Anther. Sounds funny doesn’t it? Although this gets me wondering; is it only after a cat is prepared for their “journey to StarClan” that they go? What else is their spirit doing the rest of the time, hanging around camp? Haunting someone? Scaring prey for the fun of it?
“Sunfall brushed his tail along the flank of the grieving apprentice.”
Bad Sunfall, touching a young she-cat like that.
Blue Sue is very sad we are told, but goes on a patrol anyway. Cue encounter with RiverClan. Well, not yet. The patrol sees some RiverClan cats first and….watches them for a while.
Although why the RiverClan cats are randomly invading their territory I don’t know. They already have Sunningrocks. They’re supposed to be the most well-fed Clan. Are they just stupid?
Before I describe ThunderClan ambushing the patrol, I’d like to pick on the name of the RiverClan deputy, Shellheart.
Shell- is too vague for a prefix. There are pink shells, white shells, brown shells, purple shells , striped shells. Shell- really doesn’t give me an idea of what the cat looks like. When I think shell I think of a periwinkle shell which is a deep bluish black. And swirly. So. Bad prefix.
Cue ambush.
There is stupid fighting that involves rearing and fighting on hind legs. This line is just priceless:
“Together Bluefur and Snowfur dropped to all four paws and, as one, began nipping at him.”
…THIS IS BATTLE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! You. Do. Not. Nip. You BITE you pathetic furry imbeciles who are too stupid to describe in words. ARGH!
Okay. Moving on.
“Thrushpelt rolled past Bluefur’s paws clutching Ottersplash, clawing her spine with his hind legs until the RiverClan warrior yowled for mercy.”
…if he’s clawing her with his hind legs, he must be pressed down on her back gripping her with his front paws (awkward position) while raking his back paws down her sides.
How am I not supposed to take this the wrong way? o.e
Anyway!
“…while he sent the other one flying with a mighty kick from his hind legs.”
So Stormtail is another horse. Wonderful.
“..Bluefur flicked her tail across Snowfur’s ears.”
BUTT FACING IS RUDE
And they go home.

Also your name makes me think of Victini's ability. I love my Victini.

Yeah, it is named after Victini. I have...Two, actually. My friend didn't want hers so gave it to me.
And seeing all this greif Bluestar wen tthrough... Does nothing to me. If we had more books to learn of these random, dying left and right cats? Maybe, but right now. As you said, they're cardboard cut outs.

And seeing all this greif Bluestar wen tthrough... Does nothing to me. If we had more books to learn of these random, dying left and right cats? Maybe, but right now. As you said, they're cardboard cut outs. One problem with Warriors is that there's too many characters to pay attention to. I remember one book critic complaining about it some years ago. Those cats don't even matter. They're only there so it doesn't appear like the clan is made up of only five cats.

Precisely. There's no uniqueness, no character development. Bluepaw is essentially the same as Jaypaw, just genderswapped. They're both complaining, bratty little drips who are ungrateful. I don't see why I'm supposed to root for her at all.
No, a vague-as-freaking-heck prophecy from a stoned medicine cat doesn't count.
And the dead cats...no. Blue Sue doesn't grow stronger as a person from their deaths, and they were nearly as tasteless of characters as she is. I don't care about them.
...well, with one exception, but that will be revealed later.
Some book series can pull off large casts, but Warriors is definitely not one of them. As you sum it up nicely, they're just there to fill space.
