It's generally accepted that because RiverClan cats could catch fish in canon, other fanmade Clans might rely on fish as a source of prey as well. I'm curious how realistic this is, given I've never seen a cat catch a fish before. A cursory internet search brought me some videos of domestic cats pawing at aquariums and epic failing at catching little fish in a bathtub. All the text pages I found on the subject were not any more helpful.
So, anyone with more information to offer? I know that cats most certainly enjoy the taste of fish, and will eat one if given the chance, but are they capable of catching one in the wild?

Not exactly an answer, but there are a number of wild cat species that hunt [sic] e-fish-ently [sic] in or around the water. Wild cats, mind you, not feral cats; there is a clear distinction there.
The Fishing Cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is an endangered wild cat species that lives in South/Southeast America that lives almost exclusively on a diet of fish.
Whether or not it's possible for ordinary feral cats to do the same, I do not know. The Fishing Cat has evolved to thrive in a specific location, with equally as specific behaviours and characteristics as a result. Even if it were physically possible for pet cats to fish, I wonder how long it would take for it to become successful and routine enough to provide for a whole clan.

Pet cats can fish. Depending on location, feral cats can fish much better than said pet cats. The big question with fanmade clans isn't so much if it's possible but instead if they've truly built the right setting for it. They need a location that consistently runs or houses fish of appropriate size for eating. Consistent runs are better than consistent housing (running fish can be very easy to catch). They need a location with banks that overlook deep pools as running fish will rest in them. Basically, the easier the world building makes the fishing, the more realistic it is.
