I got the all-clear signal from Ten.
That means I can now claim this board in the name of all things good, which pretty much boils down to:
We are talking about Pokemon.
Additionally, this board can also support those who are looking for mutual aid and/or empathy when it comes to anything Pokemon-related, ehehehe.
Ever since I was a kid, I have been totally obsessed with Pokemon. I have absolutely no shame. I used to make (really awfully drawn) Pokemon cards, and I think my dad took pity on me and got me some legit ones at some point.
They were mostly all Rattata. I didn’t know how to feel about that so I put them in a tin and hid them under my bed for about a month. Exactly what the point of that was, I do not know. Little Grey is completely incomprehensible.
Since then, I think I have actually gotten worse. Pokemon is one of my favourite things in the world and I could talk about it forever. I still think the noise anime Victreebel makes is brilliantly hilarious all these years later; I can recite the original Pokerap (and I’m proud about it too, what even?); I wear a metal Blastoise on a string under my shirt every day and, though I don’t role play often, Pokemon is pretty much the thing I can’t say no to. It’s sort of always been a big part of my life like that.
I’m still missing a fair few of the earlier games and I am dead awful at Mystery Dungeon. I just. I honestly don’t even for words for some of the Pokemon-induced rage that happens from time to time. I think I am still on the second dungeon, because I am ridiculously inept. During the next holidays there will be such vengeance in those caves, I swear it.
But enough about me. I’m interested in hearing from some other fans. I’ve got a couple of questions to start us off – but that’s only if you want to answer them or can’t figure out what to say. You know, whatever. Elaborate as you want to – I’m always fascinated by ‘why’ more than ‘what’.
i. Preferred game and/or region? How do you feel about the newer generations?
ii. Your favourite type/s, and if you have some favourite moves in there as well.
iii. Do you have Pokemon you love more than others? What about the ones you hate with a passion?
iv. Maybe a favourite location – a town, or route, or whatever? Somewhere that you think is just grand. (I guess you could talk about soundtrack here as well if you wanted).
v. Your perfect team. Describe them.
vi. Enter a cave with no repels or an escape rope?
vii. What kind of pokemon (trainer) are you? (How do you do the things you do? Oh no, I am not going to quote that song, I promise. All my will power is going into this.)
viii. Jessie and James. Your thoughts?
This is just to start off with. You can answer none, some or all; whatever works. If you want to talk about something that’s not already here, go for it. You can make up your own questions and answer them as well, if you want. Share great (or terrible) memories.
Pretty much just a Pokemon free-for-all.

I became obsessed when my brother found an old GBA and Pokemon Crystal. I got Silver and started with a Totodile. Then we got an SP and I got Sapphire, then FireRed. Then I got a DS, and got Pearl and then Platinum, and then SoulSilver. Then I got Black version, and I'm planning on getting Black 2.
As for spin-offs, I really only play Mystery Dungeon. I tried Ranger but my hands ached for weeks, and I also have Trozei. I have PMD Red, Time, and Sky.
And then the cards. I had a few but most of them I have now once belonged to my siblings, and then they gave them to me. And I started collecting a bit with EX and the DP series, but then I began to collect a lot with the Platinum onward sets. I have at least 1000 cards; I'll have to count again. My #1 goal with the cards is to get at least 1 card for every Pokemon. (example I need Mew, Feraligatr, Togetic...)
i. Pokemon Emerald, third gen. I like the newer gens. ii. Water, Ice, and Dark. iii. I like Eevee and Raichu. I hate freaking Zubats. iv. Battle Frontier. In Hoenn. It's just. Amazing. v. Perfect team: Team Rocket. They don't need an excuse for being evil. vi. ONLY IF I'M CATCHING POKEMON. vii. I don't like using moves that affect stats. I just use attacking moves. It helps because I can make my team more diverse in the moves they have. I don't decide a team early on; I just play and catch whoever, and then make a team as I go along. viii. Jessie and James = hilarious, probably the only thing i liked about the anime.

Oh man. Grey, you and I could be the best Pokepals. Pokemon was my thing for basically my whole childhood. I didn't actually have real people friends, but that did not matter to little me, because I had dinosaurs and Pokemon, who the heck needs real people? I distinctly remember on my 6th birthday, I was at my grandma's house for dinner and I unwrapped a brand-new pink (I guess it was the closest they had to red that didn't make my parents uncomfortable with my lack of femininity) Game Boy Color and Pokemon Red. (My sister got a purple one and Pokemon Blue but I did not care at all.) I immediately tore the packaging open, put the game in, turned it on, and ran into my grandma's guest room and played it for hours. I picked Charmander.
Ahh, those were the days.
Nowadays mentioning Pokemon around my parents sort of makes them a little concerned so I try not to talk about it as much. (They get really nervous when I start liking things I used to like as a kid, I guess they don't want me backtracking or something, I dunno.) I ask for games sometimes for my birthday or Christmas now, and I'm probably gonna see what came out in the last year or two and put that on my Christmas list. Also I need a copy of Pokemon Black again because I had both Black and White and somehow I managed to lose them both. What the hell, me?!
Also, Hey You! Pikachu was one of the most traumatic games of my childhood. I did not learn until years later you could play with it after the credits. That would be great except my N64 got stolen when our house got robbed the second time when I was like 9. (We didn't live in a nice neighborhood when I was little.)
i. Preferred game and/or region? How do you feel about the newer generations? Asking me to pick a game is like asking me to pick which child I love most. It can't be done and part of me hates you for asking. (The rest of me still loves you though.) I really liked gens 1-3 and I adore gen 5, but I absolutely cannot stand gen 4. Can't do it. Nope. Ollies out into the frickin' sun.
ii. Your favourite type/s, and if you have some favourite moves in there as well. I guess Fire and Water are my favorite types overall, but again, it's hard to pick, because I love all of them. Shadow Ball has some of the nicest in-game animation though, oh my gosh. And Surf is beautiful for being an HM move that is actually useful in battle.
iii. Do you have Pokemon you love more than others? What about the ones you hate with a passion? I do not have enough words to tell you all how effing much I love the Nido family. It's a hot, burning, passionate love that swallows the suns of 10,000 solar systems. And the planets too. And I go back to my statement about gen 4 for least favorite Pokemon. (Seriously, who the hell thought any of those were a good idea?)
iv. Maybe a favourite location – a town, or route, or whatever? Somewhere that you think is just grand. (I guess you could talk about soundtrack here as well if you wanted). Pallet Town will always give me warm fuzzies inside. I've always wanted to take a walk through the Viridian Forest. Lavender Town's music is lovely, screw anyone that says otherwise.
v. Your perfect team. Describe them. My dream team is my Nuzlocke team and some of my SoulSilver team - Stella the Hypno, Jory the Vaporeon, Flarun the Typhlosion, Sentry the Nidoking, Julie the Ampharos, and a Venasaur if I can ever get my hands on one. My Nidoking is my favorite though. He's my precious baby.
vi. Enter a cave with no repels or an escape rope? Sure, why not!
vii. What kind of pokemon (trainer) are you? (How do you do the things you do? Oh no, I am not going to quote that song, I promise. All my will power is going into this.)
I will share with you my secrets deep inside. I dunno really! I just train Pokemon I like that work well for me.
viii. Jessie and James. Your thoughts? I think you misspelled "the best characters to ever exist."

I think we should be, because you are verging dangerously on the edge of "perfect human being". Dinosaurs forever. Dinosaurs and Pokemon made up most of my childhood too. And then, the other week when I was watching tv with Bastion, this show came on - I kid you not, it was like Pokemon and dinosaurs merged, and also Yu-Gi-Oh. My mind was so blown. Bastion pretty much explained the whole show to me, because he really loves it. I feel like I should endorse that - you know, anime, dinosaurs, Pokemon-esque stuff in general - but I'm not quite convinced about this 'Dinosaur King'... www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h3f48FcdkkSeriously, the opening song is worth watching. I laugh myself silly every time. My sister and I learned the (terrible) rap for great justice - she and I, and a couple of other friends, have this sort of dare thing going: burst into spontaneous, horrible raps at the least inconvenient times in public and embarrass everyone else something chronic. (I won last time with Insane Clown Posse, ehehehe.) Yes, this so much. I am so bad at picking favourite Pokemon, I really am - I'm bad at picking favourite anythings - but the Nido- lines are magnificent. Yes again, it is great. It took me a while to get used to it, though. I've spent a lot of time playing Sinnoh, so a lot of the music there has just became a thing for me. I can't think of any handheld music that I don't like, really. Yes, yes, yes, this. When I was a kid, I admired him so much. I thought he was great, even though he was kind of dorky all the time. I mean, I still think he's great, so not much has changed. Jessie is awesome too - I don't know how James puts up with her sometimes, though. I've never played Ranger. A friend of mine let me check it out, but I haven't got it myself. I'm actually looking to getting Kanto and Johto first, since I don't have those either.

Ohhh Console Games. Let's talk about those. The Stadium games are without a doubt the best. They're both pools of nostalgia, and I think my favorite part is the minigames. x3 the third gen console games were alright but Battle Revolution is just eeewww. Now I don't play them that often, because there is no way I could afford a console anytime soon. But they're still fun. :3

The N64 games were the best in the world and no one can convince me otherwise. I may try and hunt down one for myself when I get my own place and play all my favorite childhood games in secret. 'Cause, like I said earlier, it got stolen when I lived in a bad neighborhood and our house got robbed the second time. I used to love Pokemon Stadium 2, and Snap was just the best thing (though I could never beat the Mew level. Ever.). Hey You, Pikachu! was definitely my favorite though. It was just so great to be able to really /talk/ to your Pokemon and have it listen to you. I guess for me it was sort of like having a real best friend. (I was a really awkward kid and while I got along with other kids, I wasn't interested in forming friendships.)

Hiop, I hope you keep your promise Grey <83
i. Preferred game and/or region? How do you feel about the newer generations? My favorite game is probably the one I finished first - Crystal. But then there is also Emerald and Soul Silver... Fire Red is great too... And MD: Explorers of Darkness... The best region is Hoenn though. Regarding the new games, I didn't like Pearl and Diamond as much, but I loved Black and White. All the new Pokemon are fine though. Except Purugly zounds.
ii. Your favourite type/s, and if you have some favourite moves in there as well. Favorite types are Dragon and Psychic. I love the moves Draco Meter and Smokescreen (the most useful move in MD I swear). Earthquake is also great, especially when you catch a digging pokemon with it C:<
iii. Do you have Pokemon you love more than others? What about the ones you hate with a passion? Flygon, Gardevoir and Dragonite, but I mean, all dragon pokemon are great. I don't hate any Pokemon, but there are a lot which I don't like the look of... Except everything looks good in mystery dungeon...
iv. Maybe a favourite location – a town, or route, or whatever? Somewhere that you think is just grand. (I guess you could talk about soundtrack here as well if you wanted). My secret base in Emerald I don't remember which route it was on off hand, but it was in a tree and it was the best secret base ever. As for soundtrack, the one that makes me the most nostalgic would be Crystal, but MD: EOD has an amazing soundtrack as well, I mean geez: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Zy1nmFFnog .
v. Your perfect team. Describe them. Flygon, Gardevoir, Dragonite, Tyranitar and two others depending on the game (Latias, Chandelure, Charizard, Haxorus, Hydreigon, Glaceon, Vaporeon, Scrafty etc)
vi. Enter a cave with no repels or an escape rope? Never
vii. What kind of Pokemon (trainer) are you? (How do you do the things you do? Oh no, I am not going to quote that song, I promise. All my will power is going into this.) Traveler!
viii. Jessie and James. Your thoughts? I know who I would be. Wobbuffet.
I see we have some n64 players here, anyone played Pokemon Snap? Also Pokemon XD is a great game: www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCbIFDPI3hs I swear this is the last one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNaahr-w2KQ

I was actually considering just laughing in your face for believing me when I said that, but since I’m kind of going to be your guest for the next few days, I am not going to antagonize you, ehehehehe. i. The first Pokemon game I ever got was Sapphire, and that was the first I finished. I chose a Mudkip and I think I named him Buddy. That was a really great game. I don’t think it’s my favourite, though. I think my favourite game is Sinnoh – only because it’s the one I spent the most time on, and where I have all my good stuff. I like all generations of Pokemon. I actually get really frustrated with people who are like, “First gen is the best thing ever, the new gen sucks, they’re running out of creativity.” Because if you want to argue that, you’re an idiot. Yes, in the new generation you have things like the Vanillite line (which people like to complain about), but all they’re doing is branching away from animalistic forms to inanimate ones. For those who think this is a “loss” of creativity, I’d want to ask them if they thought Pokemon had any in the first place. In case they’ve forgotten: Sandshrew has one of the least ‘creative’ names in Pokemon history. Arbok is a purple cobra. Rattata is a purple rat. Venomoth is just a big, purple moth. Muk and Grimer are piles of animate purple sludge. (They really like purple, by the way.) Exeggcute is a cluster of eggs. I don’t think this is a lack of creativity – this is Pokemon. This is how Pokemon works. It’s kind of silly and it’s really awesome. The only thing achieved by dissing the newer generations is a self-proclamation of Pokemon-related ignorance and exposition of ‘Golden Age’ nostalgia-fueled forgetfulness. Pokemon wasn’t better then; you just think it was because you were a kid and you can’t really remember it, besides the feeling of sheer joy you had watching/playing it. ii. I have always been keen on Dark, Poison and Ghost types or half-types of these three. I don’t know about moves, though I have to agree with Hauer – Surf is a really wonderful one. iii. I honestly like all Pokemon, because I think all Pokemon are useful for something. In the right team, any Pokemon can be an asset if it’s trained properly. I do like some designs more than others. I like Ghosts in general, especially Cofragigus and Banette, and Cacturne is just the maddest lad out there. There’s a lot of fake Pokemon that I really like as well and some of them really would be great as canon, I think. I like considering the possibilities of certain combinations or new evolutions – like, for example, imagine a Mime Jr. given a Dusk Stone. Now you have a wicked brother of the dark carnival all up and hocus-pocusing some insidious jujus at your rival. Is that not the greatest idea ever? Pretty sure it is. I don’t think there are any Pokemon I dislike, really. I mean, a lot of the Fighting types are kind of... alarming? Their designs are almost uniformly ugly. It’s like some unspoken Pokemon rule. I’m shallow and like aesthetics, so they’re probably my least favourite, but only because of that. (And Toxicroak and Croagunk are up there in my favourites list, so obviously, there are Fighting type exceptions.) iv. No? I don’t think so. They’re all cool. v. No idea about this one. I don’t make one team – I make many, many teams. I pick a specific goal or purpose, and I build the perfect team for said situation. I breed them to have exactly the right traits I want, work out the maximum efficiency for all their moves and then train them until I’m happy (which is almost never). vi. Yes, exactly. Never. vii. I don’t know what kind of trainer. If we’re talking in Class, probably some weird combination of Clerk-Pokemon Breeder or something like that. Also, I was just going through the list of Trainer Classes because I had forgotten some of them, and I saw: Factory Head. Palace Maven. Pike Queen. Pyramid King. And my brain blotted out everything except Pyramid Head and I thought my heart was going to explode. Moving on. viii. Jessie and James are fantastic. That is really all there is to say on the matter. Dude, I’m sure no one minds the links. I have one of my own. Remember this? Wasn’t that fun, that time you linked this to me and I was home alone at two-thirty in the morning: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT_ZpHgiIKo

We would all be the best pokepals.
i. Preferred game and/or region? How do you feel about the newer generations? Well, my preferred game is Gold, but my favourite region is hoenn? I don't know, Hoenn was just awesome. And the new gens are cool. I'm still waiting for a R/S/E remake.
ii. Your favourite type/s, and if you have some favourite moves in there as well. Grass types and leaf blade. I adore my leaf blade. Not sure WHY, I mean, it's not strong. but leaf blade.
iii. Do you have Pokemon you love more than others? What about the ones you hate with a passion? Sceptile <3. I'm, not sure why, maybe because Ruby was the first game I completed all by myself? Maybe because my Sceptile was my first lv 100? Maybe because my arrogant friend got his whole fire type team swept by an earthquaking sceptile. I don't know. And I hate Bronzong.
iv. Maybe a favourite location – a town, or route, or whatever? Somewhere that you think is just grand. (I guess you could talk about soundtrack here as well if you wanted). People always say lavender town...But I'm going out on a limb and saying Mt.Pyre from R/S/E. The music's so serene, and it just gives a sense of peace...Like you shouldn't battle there, just respect.
v. Your perfect team. Describe them. I can't. I have so many perfect teams. And most of them involve ubers and a sceptile.
vi. Enter a cave with no repels or an escape rope? Challenge accepted.
vii. What kind of pokemon (trainer) are you? (How do you do the things you do? Oh no, I am not going to quote that song, I promise. All my will power is going into this.) What kind of trainer am I? Well, in the anime I'd be that jackoff that's 'OH SO MEEN' to her pokemon and gets told off for it because I don't respect them or something? Even though I do, I just get frustrated at haxs.
viii. Jessie and James. Your thoughts? Why couldn't they be the main characters instead of Ash?

Oh my god. If they do that, I will forgive Nintendo for every mistake they've ever made. That Gen introduced so many new features to the series that I'd LOVE to see in a remake! Secret Bases, Battle Frontier, Regi Puzzles...
Dude. They should totally get their own spin-off show.

I OWN at both Mystery Dungeon and Ranger. |D My stylus is an instrument of fear.
HOENN IS MY FAVORITE REGION RE-MAKE NEEDED
i. Preferred game and/or region? How do you feel about the newer generations?
Hoenn, Emerald Version, no contest. It's my birthstone, came out on my birthday, and I kicked such total butt at it. Newer generations...FireRed and LeafGreen were meh, Diamond and Pearl were okay, but I really like Black and White.
ii. Your favourite type/s, and if you have some favourite moves in there as well.
Water is my favorite type. One of my favorite moves has to be Shock Wave; I love the ones that always hit no matter what. I'm an accuracy junkie.
iii. Do you have Pokemon you love more than others? What about the ones you hate with a passion?
I LOVE Mudkip and its evolutions, Ninetales, all the water starters pretty much, Treecko, Absol, Gardevoir, Gengar, Ferrothorn for some reason, and loads of others. OH. Mew.
iv. Maybe a favourite location – a town, or route, or whatever? Somewhere that you think is just grand. (I guess you could talk about soundtrack here as well if you wanted).
I love love love the ashy and desert area in Hoenn.
v. Your perfect team. Describe them.
Difficult, I have a few. Swampert is my starter, hands down. Machamp is a pretty good fighting type, I love me a Rayquaza, Lucario, and Ampharos is one of my favorite electric types. I like loads of others too though. My Sawk isa beast.
vi. Enter a cave with no repels or an escape rope?
Uh-huh. Slaughter things out of frustration and then run from them when I start to get annoyed.
vii. What kind of pokemon (trainer) are you? (How do you do the things you do? Oh no, I am not going to quote that song, I promise. All my will power is going into this.)
I raise my team pretty evenly and I base my strategy almost completely on type advantages and dealing the most damage with them by teaching my pokemon a variety of moves. I'm not much of a status condition inflictor or a strategist, I just hit 'em with damage until they die. I prefer accurate moves rather than ones that do a lot of damage but miss a lot.
viii. Jessie and James. Your thoughts?
So cheesy but so lovable. Also, Meowth you annoying little jerkface, stop being so cute.
