Within the realm of strictly traditional names, or strictly canonical names, or strictly any style names, whatever means you use to determine what prefixes are and are not acceptable, there are combinations that we all agree are a little preposterous, such as Stormstorm, which is inadvisable for obvious reasons.
However, what do you think about other kinds of unfortunate names? What if a prefix and suffix, acceptable under your view, result in a combination that makes you laugh or feel uncomfortable? It might technically be an effective name, but for the purposes of fanfiction, roleplay, and any other publicized character creation, do you believe such names are inadvisable? Should people avoid them because of other associations, or should they use them anyway because the cats would understand the intent?
For example, there are names such as Yellowstream that are evocative of urine and easily mocked, in rather a light-hearted sort of way, based on (more or less?) universal biology. And then there are more serious instances, such as the use of Blackface. This term has been used in human culture to refer to a derogatory practice, one that the cats wouldn't necessarily be aware of, but that human readers and interpreters might have heard of. As well as that, if you accept Pale as a prefix, you've also got to contend with Paleface, which has been used as a kind of racial epithet. What is your stance on these issues? If you saw someone using a cringe-worthy combination, formed of otherwise acceptable words, what would you do?

I swear to ghost, realising this name at two in the morning was one of my finer moments, ehehe.
When legitimate warrior names have a double meaning like this, I always advise people to change the name. Yes, it makes sense in a Warriors context, but a Warriors context is within the human context, so you need to keep that in mind. This is really for the potentially racist or otherwise offensive names; less so for the silly ones, like Yellowstream. I mean, if you can keep a straight face and don't mind the occasional giggle or two, you're welcome to use those - it's just worthwhile knowing it will be hard to take the character seriously.
For things like Blackface, there is no excuse for its use.

Brownnose is another unfortunate traditional name, though more in the Yellowstream than Blackface vein.
I figure that for the genuinely offensive ones (like Blackface), there's really no reason why they would be okay to use. They're offensive and there are plenty of other prefixes that you could use for your particularly attractive black cat. Just be a decent human being and respect the feelings of others.
And this also counts if someone is offended by something that you don't think is offensive. It doesn't matter that it's "just a joke" or whatever. If you accidentally hurt someone's feelings, then genuinely apologize (none of that "I'm sorry if I offended you" foxdung), stop it, and don't do it again
For the silly and non-offensive ones, I figure that if you don't mind people giggling at poor Whitestream's name, then go ahead and use it. It'll probably be hard for people to take the character seriously, but whatever floats your boat (without hurting anybody).
That's pretty much my ethical motto right there. Whatever floats your boat (without hurting anybody).

I honestly can't even think of genuinely offensive names that are traditional other than Blackface? o.o Maybe I'm just sheltered when it comes to slurs or bad things but I really don't know of any others...

Any color prefix with the suffix -stream. These names are just hilarious.

I believe I just mentioned Whitestream Similar to the above- color prefixes with the suffix -face are often problematic.

Colour prefixes with water suffixes. Even none traditional ones. I'm sorry, but I see a cat named 'Whitepuddle' and I laugh for eons.

Going off of Ashfur's example
great StarClan i hate when the Erins do that i.e. make gimmicky or jokey names that only make sense in their entirety

And then Heavystep and Loudbelly.
Really? Heavykit? Really?
Yeah, joke names. Ugh. There's another way the Erins just threw the series' potential out the window.
