If it makes you feel better, I'm the only one in my house that hates country music so I have to hear it all the time. It. Sucks.

There's only one country singer I can stand and that'd Carrie Underwood. I think that all the other country just sounds the same, especially the male singers. But yes, that does make me feel better.

I don't like country particularly (though I do think Johnny Cash is/was pretty cool)
What kind of tense do you even use when you're talking about an artist who's dead but whose work continues to exist? It trips me up when I'm talking about Queen, too.

When talking about the artist, use past tense. However, works of art, literature, and in this case, music, are always referred to in the present tense, because they never stop being works of art, literature, and music.

I've got Gloomy Sunday stuck in my head now. Emilie Autumn's version is the one I'm most familiar with, so I have a bizarre EA/Billie Holiday mashup in my head.

Yes. This is perfect. And Christmas carols. I don't even know why I like them, but I do. Christmas Carols are pretty neat, easy to sing, and sometimes have pretty cords in song. Out of all of the Christmas carols, I like many of Nutcracker songs.

Civil Wars.Kasey Chambers & Shane Nicholson.I submit that the idea that all country music sounds the same is bull. Quite honestly, I find it's pop artists that have a tendency to sound the same. I also find that they tend to sound like utter crap when you see them in concert. Not all, but most. Generally speaking it's the country singers who sound like they do on the radio in concert: good. Honestly, I think if more people listened to country that wasn't replayed on the radio fifty times a day they'd like it more. There's a lot of good artists out there that have really unique voices and styles but are -generally speaking- unknown to the mainstream. That said, I'll listen to just about anything. Have some Big Bad Voodoo Daddy: Calloway Boogie2000 Volts

I tend to dislike the country I'm forced to listen to because A) I'm forced to listen to it and B) it tends to be really sexist,,,

Why are the songs that were never properly recorded always my favorites? Ugh, Christopher Lydon is a great song.

*Walks into this thread like the massive creeper I am who has been silently watching this forum from a dark corner* I don't have much to contribute by way of fictional awesome cats and their back stories, but I do like to talk about music. I really like Marina and the Diamonds; she is much more pop then my usual taste but I have been a pretty avid fan of her music. If you like catchy music that I think has a social commentary you might like her. www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2TuBMsQihsThe lyrics go; "If women were religiously Recognized sexually We wouldn't have to feel the need to show our ***-ets, to feel free." Another band that I love is Two Door Cinema Club, they are a lot of fun so you might want to check out these two songs; www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLK4oaXUuLgand www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXwYJyrKK5ALastly I feel like I should mention Regina Spektor, I've always loved her voice and clever lyrics. This video is her song in a homestuck fan video. I thought I might suggest it since some of you are probably familiar with the story and plus, who doesn't love some great music paired with great fanart? www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWC16tibFcEAnyway its time I said goodbye. *ollies out awkwardly*

Is it Blue Lips? I see that one with Equius a lot. I'm not familiar enough with Regina Spektor's music to have any idea why.
I kill this thread every time I post XD

Speaking of songs that make me think Homestuck, The Hem Around Us makes me think Mindfang/Dualscar for some reason. Here's the song. I don't understand the picture.Shannon Wright's pretty cool (i found her through Pandora, which is pretty great).

I'll pretty much listen to anything. The genres I tend to stick to are instrumental hip hop, electronica, indie pop, alternative and j-rock, and new age. Ever now and then there's a catchy pop song that comes on that I'll like for the melody. The only thing I can't bare to listen to is country. I just can't.
