It really annoys me how much vets and humans are totally dissed in the Warriors world. Honestly, most people that hate cats don't go out looking for cats to hurt. Furthermore, has not a single Clan warrior ever noticed that kittypets live longer, healthier lives than they do? And how has there never been a single mention of a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program? This "cats are captured to be turned into kittypets" thing they pulled with Graystripe and a few cats in Dawn really freaking bugs me. Adult feral cats can /never/ be adopted out, they're either euthanized if they're severely ill or injured, or they're released back into the wild.
Honestly, we help feral cats more than we hurt them. I get the Clans dissing us for neutering cats via "the Cutter" but it boggles my mind that there's apparently been no cases of a human helping a cat rather than hurting them.
Oh wait, I forgot, the Erins don't give a **** about cats and just write these books for money.

I understand that clan cats are supposed to be proud and free, but I hate it when everything involving humans are treated as something toxic and bad. The fact these cats know the names of uncommon animals and humans are called "Twolegs" just enforces this. The Erins make humans seem like this dangerous monster or alien, when arguably humans have been walking around before the common house cat even existed. It's ridiculous.

Chapter 15
Back in ThunderClan, Leafpaw is getting ready to go to the medicine cat club meeting. Cinderpelt says there's no smell of rain, so the journey should be easy. I wonder what rain smells like.
They meet Littlecloud at Fourtrees and then we have a nice little backstory paragraph for him. They meet Mudfur and Mothwing there as well and Leafpaw is excited to see her. She tries to be friendly, but realizes with dismay that Mothwing is a full warrior while she is just an apprentice.
Nevertheless, the two start up a conversation during their journey and Mothwing tells the infamous story of how she was accepted as a medicine cat apprentice.
They meet up with Barkface at the end of WindClan territory and Mudfur greets him even though their clans are going through hostilities over the river.
I would hate to be a medicine cat, then. That would mean I would have to choose between my clan and StarClan near constantly.
Leafpaw notices Cinderpelt's injury is bothering her and she suggests they take a break. We learn Mothwing is nervous that StarClan won't accept her even despite the phoney omen her brother set up. Leafpaw reassures her, but she's still unconvinced, saying she would have to be better than the best because she isn't clan born. Firestar is used as an example for the umpteenth time, but she's still nervous.
They finally reach Mothermouth and they go inside. Mothwing has her apprentice ceremony so now it's time to be hypnotized by the pretty magic stone. Leafpaw has a vision of the Great Journey that is going to take place in the future and of where Suepaw is now. They wake up and Mothwing is positively amazed by what she saw.
I kinda feel sorry for her even though it's expected for RiverClan to be wary of a stranger.
Chapter 16
It seems the cats have gotten themselves cornered by two kittypets trying to defend their territory. Figuring a battle isn't worth it, Brambleclaw tries to help his friends escape. But Suepaw has other ideas.
She attacks one of the kittypets, giving Crowpaw and Tawnypelt time to flee. Suepaw and Stormfur are cornered when a woman comes out and yells at the all (probably because of all the noise cats make when fighting). The house cats flee and the clan cats have time to escape.
Brambleclaw scolds Suepaw for being foolish, saying they "could have clawed your fur off."
I see. Lesson of the day: soft fathers make bratty daughters.
My old tom would have probably begged to differ as well. Even though he's fixed, he still makes an effort to beat up and intimidate every cat he meets.
The rest of the gang ignores the stupidity of Suepaw's actions and instead praise her for her "bravery". If anyone was brave here, it was the house cats. They were outnumbered 3:1 and yet they stood their ground against wild cats. No one even stops to think about how courageous that was.
They rest in a field across the road. Crowpaw tries to be difficult and insist they move on, but no one can argue with the logic behind Brambleclaw's words.
Suepaw finds some water, but when Tawnypelt drinks from it, it's as salty as the ocean. The group takes it as a sign from StarClan. I'm beginning to think just about anything can be a sign from StarClan.
Hmm, lets check the rules, shall we? Tawnypelt has pure ThunderClan blood and she is the sister of the main character. I say, she has a higher hierarchy over you, Crowpaw.
Chapter 17
Suepaw wakes Brambleclaw up saying that Crowpaw and Feathertail is missing. Do you know what I think? Bow chicka wow, wow. They panic a little before Crowpaw and Feathertail return. Apparently, they've been hunting.
No, he's the leader. Same thing, really.
Three days later and they encounter some horses. Crowpaw says that sometimes they're seen on WindClan territory and people ride on them. I'm still want to know how WindClan knows what they're called.
We call those people furries.
They wonder if the horses would stomp on them or not, but they figure horses are "stupid, or else they wouldn't let Twolegs on their backs." They cross the field with no problem and they come across some cows. Okay, seriously, Erin, you're gonna have to explain to me why they don't know what a human is called.
They come to a field and see a tractor and they completely freak out. This made me laugh the most:
They take Crowpaw's advice for once and go around the field to avoid the tractor. They come to a metal fence and while crawling under it, Suepaw gets stuck. Crowpaw suggests leaving her there and I agree. Stormfur thinks differently and says he'll stay with her if need be.
The two are just about to fight when a sheep herding dog is heard in the distance and their testosterone levels drop dramatically. Supposedly, dock leaves = butter and they slide Suepaw out that way.
It's the next day and Brambleclaw is feeling homesick and stressed. Feathertail comes running up and says she's had her saltwater sign, which means Crowpaw will be the last to get it.
Hm, Feathertail is half-ThunderClan. It seems I was right that the hierarchy depends on the amount of Thunderclan blood that runs through the cat's veins and the closeness it is to the main character.
Feathertail makes the point that Crowpaw is on his own on this journey; all the others know each other and are close, but Crowpaw is pure WindClan and knows no one. This only supports my theory.

Chapter 18
Leafpaw's point of view again. I'm beginning to wonder why they even bothered having chapters in her point of view. To record what's going on in the clans in the main character's absence? Erin would've done better if they didn't; Leafpaw's personality (or lack of it) is so boring that I always feel like skipping her chapters. They would've done better if they put it in Mousefur's point of view.
Anywho, Cinderpelt sends Leafpaw to go with a warrior to pick up some herbs going at Fourtrees. Cinder also notes that WindClan is still drinking water from RiverClan's territory despite all the rain. Leafpaw chooses Sorreltail and on their way out, it's noted that Firestar still feels depressed. *yawn* On their way there, Erin tries her hand at character development; BTW, Sorreltail is a little more battle hungry than I remember her being:
I doubt it'll be that exciting.
While picking herbs, the two she-cats bare witness to a hostile exchange between WindClan and a RiverClan patrol led by Mistyfoot. Hawkfrost is in the patrol as well, along with a black tom who is so unimportant that he wasn't even named. Once Tallstar and his cronies leave, Leafpaw makes herself known and the patrol come to the border to talk. Mistyfoot asks if they've seen Feathertail and Stormfur recently.
A failed attempt at being mysterious. What other "powerful, broad shouldered, dark brown tabby" do you know of, Leafpaw? I don't know what eye color has to do with anything.
Sorreltail proves not to have much brains either when she tells Mistyfoot that Thunderclan is missing cats too. The RiverClan deputy wonders if maybe a predator had taken them and Leafpaw basically gives the secret away by saying "If they all decided to leave the forest, perhaps they've gone together." Hawkfrost suggests that maybe the other clans had lost cats too and Mistyfoot decides that maybe they should bring it up at the next gathering.
The conversation moves on to talk about WindClan's misuse of the agreement they had with RiverClan the last gathering. The only point of this conversation was to point out Hawkfrost's potential battle-lust.
Leafpaw and Sorreltail return home to report what they heard to Firestar.
She's upset that the cats in camp are showing signs that they're content and happy with their lives. What, did you expect everyone to mope around like Firestar is? If anything, I bet they're relieved to get a little peace and quiet from Suepaw.
Anyway, they bring the news to Firestar and Yesman and Yesman gets into defensive father mode. For the millionth time, the question of whether the dogs from the last arc had come back or not. To stop everyone from freaking out, Leafpaw tells Firestar a shocking secret:
Can I join the X-men, now?
So she tells Firestar that Suepaw is alive and they're reassured. Later on, she has a dream that I guess is supposed to cause suspense for the next chapter.
Chapter 19
The six cats are being chased by a dog through the woods. There's a lot of panic and confusion and just when Brambleclaw thinks he's done for, a cat yells from the branches above to climb an ivy-covered tree. He makes it to the top, where he finds a couple of his friends. They all make it except one: Feathertail the damsel-in-distress. She hides in a bush behind the dog who is busy barking at the cats in the tree. Frustrated, Crowpaw Leroy Jenkins'd out of the tree, providing Damseltail time to climb up the tree. He circles back and climbs the tree behind her, just in time for the dog's owner to appear and take it away.
They find out that the cat who yelled at them before was none other than the infamous Purdy. There's a page and a half of confused dialouge, the most I can grasp of it being that Purdy called humans "Upwalkers" and that he once lived with a human but he died and now he's an alley cat.
He has a bit of nostalgia as he remembered his old owner, particularly about being comfy and always well fed. Brambleclaw doubts this, however, because of the stories he heard from Firestar about raw mouse tasting better than cat food. Crowpaw mentions finding something to eat and Purdy offers to help them find places to eat, which is very kind of him. There's another page of useless dialogue before Brambleclaw finally consults with do group on whether they should trust him or not.
The reasoning of these cats baffle me.
Purdy leads them near a house they immediately jump to conclusions thinking he was leading them inside. The old fart explains that there's food in the garden.
They remind me of what happens when you stick an Amish person in the middle of NYC.
Damseltail and Stormfur fish them out and the other clan cats try fish for the first time. They teach the apprentices how and when Crowpaw fails, he finally gets his saltwater sign. At that moment, a human comes and chases them away. Crowpaw basically has a fit and Damseltail makes him realize that he just had his saltwater sign, which calms him down. Purdy is confused as to what they're talking about and as a thanks for his help, Brambleclaw explains what's going on.
When Purdy expresses his ignorance of what clans (StarClan in particular) are, Suepaw gaped at him in disbelief. Why did she expect him to know? StarClan are the ancestors of clan cats, not all cats. Lucky for them, Purdy knows how to get to the beach and offers to show them. Figuring he'll also know his way around town, Brambleclaw agrees.

Chapter 20
You know your book is getting bad when the reader actually flips through the chapter just to see how many pages it is. It looks pretty long too...
Once I force myself to start reading, it seems to be the next day and Brambleclaw wonders if he made the right decision before, knowing that Crowpaw and Tawnypelt is unhappy with it. He asks Purdy about food again since they hardly got to eat before and the old fart leads them to a house.
Once they realize that Purdy means to get food from inside the house, Tawnypelt is being indecisive because "eating kittypet food is against the warrior code."
Erins, Erins, you guys have got to come up with better expressions than this. Think about what you write.
Stormfur displays common sense and says they might as well because they have no time to find food the old-fashioned way.
Tawnypelt and Crowpaw are unconvinced and they stand guard while everyone else helps themselves to cat food and milk. Erin shows once again that she doesn't do her homework because you're not supposed to feed grown cats milk. Like adult humans, they can develop lactose intolerance as they mature; that's why I don't understand why all humans are ignorant of this in the books and feed the cats milk instead of water.
They're having a grand 'ol time until the child (maybe a toddler?) of the home sees the cats and is ecstatic about it. He picks up Damseltail and she tries to get out of his grip, but this kid is determined. Brambleclaw tries to look to Purdy for guidance only to see him kissing up to the child's parent.
What are you so angry about? From the looks of things, the kid isn't hurting her. Heck, he's even petting her.
Just before Crowpaw attempts to claw the kid to shreds, Suepaw stops him saying she's thought of a better method. She rubs up against the kid and just when he tries to pet Suepaw too, Damseltail jumps out of his arms and they all run for it.
Purdy follows them and Crowpaw tries to chase him away. Purdy insists that the humans in the house were good people and ignorance of street life is finally voiced out in the open:
How do you figure? Because he was being nice? So humans are evil and any human displaying kindness is obviously a trick. I'm quickly figuring out that these cats are all idiots.
Damseltail points out that she wasn't hurt and she could have escaped at anytime by clawing the kid and she thanks Suepaw for her plan.
Yes. You bring much dishonor to your family, Suepaw.
By the end of the day, it's shown that the great and mighty warriors are completely exhausted while Purdy still has the strength of ten young cats. And they look down on Purdy. Brambleclaw asks Purdy if there's a place to hunt and rest and he knows a good place to rest.
Looking at the sun, Brambleclaw realizes with horror that they've been traveling the wrong way. Tawnypelt and Crowpaw, who have been difficult this entire chapter once again try to get rid of Purdy, but Stormfur is the voice of reason and says they'll be totally lost without him.
Purdy finally leads them to a place to sleep and they all hunt mice that were "scrawny and reeked of twolegplace", whatever that smells like.
The next day, everyone's stressed. Stormfur recklessly crosses the street, almost getting hit by a car. Brambleclaw offers to help Suepaw cross the street.
What is wrong with you?
I smell a nicely roasted brat.
Ha, ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
Kind of like this chapter.
They come across the dump of the town and three wild rats appeared. The leader attacks Brambleclaw but is knocked back. More rat reinforcements and the cats are stuck in a battle with the rats.
After the battle, they take up the injured rats to eat and find a place to lick their wounds. Suepaw makes herself useful by using what she learn from Leafpaw on Tawnypelt, who was bitten badly on the shoulder. The chapter finally ends with Brambleclaw complimenting Suepaw for her battle skills and for once, she doesn't make a jerky response.

Chapter 21
Boring old Leafpaw’s turn again, whoopee!
She wakes up and asks Cinderpelt if they have any burdock root for rat bites. Apparently, her mind is still stuck in the dream because she insists that they find some even though there’s no danger of rats in ThunderClan.
Cinderpelt asks her if she’s been dreaming and Leafpaw says that maybe she had, but she couldn’t remember what about. Cinder declares it a sign from StarClan. Why not? Leafpaw tries to get the meaning of it out of Cinderpelt, but she says that if it is a sign, then it’s hers and that StarClan never speaks in clear language and that they’ll have to take a leap of faith.
You know, that was all fine and dandy to me when I was first reading, but then when the Erins screwed up and made StarClan just a bunch of dead cats that can’t do anything to help I’ve been skeptical ever since. That’s not okay. If they can’t physically help, then why are they playing games? That’s sick.
Uh. I do believe Spottedleaf was only “gifted” because Erin keeps saying she was. There was nothing memorable about her when she was alive in the first arc.
On her way to find burdock root, Leafpaw realizes that it wasn’t a sign from StarClan, but just another dream about her sister. Oh, and the gathering is happening that day.
Gathering time. Leafpaw meets up with Mothwing who says she doesn’t feel any closer to StarClan since the medicine cat gathering. Leafpaw reassures her by telling her that all medicine cats feel like that.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
But, seriously though. Leafpaw asks if something’s wrong and before Mothwing could answer the leaders conveniently start the discussion.
Leopardstar skips all the formalities and jumps right to business, asking Tallstar if the streams in WindClan were running again. When Tallstar said that they were, she took back her agreement from last gathering and promises to drive out any WindClan cat within her borders. He promises not to “abuse” her trust, even though he already has.
Hawkfrost asks to speak and plays devil’s advocate by saying that WindClan was stealing fish from the river whenever they came to visit. Tallstar insists that no WindClan cat had stolen prey and when Hawkfrost admits that he was the only one who saw it asks Leopardstar if she would believe the word of only one warrior. She counters by asking if he was calling Hawkfrost a liar.
At this point, hostilities are aroused and Leafpaw wonders if the oh-so-sacred truce will be broken. She wonders why Hawkfrost even brought it up and Mothwing defends her brother saying WindClan shouldn’t get away with it. She forgets that medicine cats are supposed to keep the peace and looks like she’s about to fight as well.
Of course, it is Firestar the mediator to point out that StarClan is angry when a single cloud is threatening to cover the moon. Once everyone calms down, he makes the decision for both WindClan and RiverClan for them to just let it go.
He makes a speech about how plentiful prey is while looking suspiciously at Blackstar who has done nothing hostile the entire book. For someone who is supposed to be the wisest leader in all the clans, he sure is prejudice.
Next is the discussion of the missing cats and as expected, Firestar is asked what they should do by Tallstar, who is the oldest leader there. Firestar is quickly earning the name Firesue.
They all agree that it’s pointless to worry about and they simply have to believe that StarClan knows what they’re doing.
Blackstar reports that more construction vehicles have shown up and no one cares.
When you guys should be concerned about what humans are doing, you’re not. I mean, how can no one find this peculiar?
The meeting breaks up. The chapter ends with Leafpaw taking a bite of burdock root and thinking hard in hopes that it’ll reach Suepaw.
Chapter 22
A page and a half is spent voicing Brambleclaws doubts. He is reassured by Stormfur, who takes over sentry duty for him.
The next day, Crowpaw reasonably tells him that they have to get out of town that day, saying they be better in the woods somewhere. They get ready to go, taking care of Tawnypelt’s wound first before leaving. Suepaw is channeling Leafpaw, but it’s having trouble getting through. Try using your whiskers as an antenna.
Purdy leads them yet again in an aimless journey through town, until Damseltail’s had enough of her circumstances. Purdy had led them to a dead end and she’s uncharacteristically angry.
Apparently, no one likes seeing the damsel displaying personality and they try to calm her down.
Purdy comes through for them and finds a hole in the wall that led to the woods beyond. Everyone is finally happy again. They agree to stay there for the rest of the day to regain their strength.
Brambleclaw and Suepaw go hunting together. Suepaw is still trying to catch a signal, so Bramble does most of the work. Eventually, she figures out the message Leafpaw was sending her and finds burdock in the undergrowth. By the language spoken, I think Suepaw doesn’t even know about Leafpaw’s synchronized emotions.
No, she’s just a living radio.
Purdy decides to go back to town where he feels comfortable, saying that he’ll wait three days for them in case they need to find their way back, much to the annoyance of the young cats.
By the end of the day, everyone feels depressed and wants to go home. But then, Suepaw comes up saying that she smells salt.

Chapter 23
Brambleclaw can smell salt too. They rush towards the smell and come to the halt when they reach a huge cliff. Yay, they finally found the ocean!
They rush to find the cave from Brambleclaw’s dream, but in the process, Bramble loses his footing in some loose dirt. In a few paragraphs of confusing English, we figure out that Brambleclaw has fallen into the sea, with Suepaw behind him.
Okay, Suepaw tries to save a cat nearly TWICE her size. Is she serious? She’ll drown. Stormfur saves the both of them and for once Suepaw shows concern for Brambleclaw, who from the description looks half dead.
What are you thanking her for? It was Stormfur who saved you. Stormfur looks disapprovingly, but still says that what she did was brave.
Okay, guys, listen. Stupidity =/= Bravery. Stop thanking her for being an idiot.
Tawnypelt repeats what I just thought, but pressured by her friends, she’s forced to admit that it was brave.
They find that they’re in the cave from his dream and surprise, surprise! A badger!
Chapter 24
They all panic, until the badger introduces herself in broken cat language. Crowpaw threatened to attack and Midnight laughs and rightly so. She could easily end him.
There’s hesitation but they finally come around, agreeing to talk. She explains that she knows all about the prophecy and Crowpaw still makes threats. Idiot.
While looking at the ocean, Brambleclaw has a brief hallucination about the blood of cats…Whatever. Midnight leads them to her home where she gives Tawnypelt burdock root. Then they finally get to talking.
Cats and badgers are the only intelligent ones, it seems. Doesn’t explain how she knows StarClan, though.
She mentions tribes by mistake and Brambleclaw is uneasy knowing there’s other cats in the world that live in groups. I don’t know why. She explains that the whole point of the trip was for them to bond together and that “all clans must be one.” I call bull. She finally gets to saying that all the cats must leave the forest because a developer is going to level the place to build a highway.
Crowpaw’s in denial and says StarClan will stop it. If you had to make this journey, I don’t think they can.
She tells them to rest for the night. When the question of where should they go comes up, she foreshadows that one of them is going to die and then they’ll find the way. Sure.
The main chapters end with Midnight telling them that their journey has just begun. Oh, I’m so excited.
Epilogue
Firesue is leading a patrol near the road and Cloudtail remarks on the smell. For some reason, Leafpaw is traveling with them.
They hear a sound and see construction vehicles coming up the road. To their surprise, it drives off the road and they scatter. To their horror, they watch the bulldozer knock over a tree and we’re left knowing that the demolition has started.
Welp, that’s it. Thankfully, Midnight didn’t have as much issues going for it as the rest of the series does, but it shows as a preview of all the things wrong with it: - Lack of research/constant put downs of house cats and everything to do with humans. - The forced involvement of characters that shouldn’t even make a difference. - The worship of Firestar and his rule over all forest cats - ThunderClan’s overall treatment and signifigance over all other cats - Cats are forced to appear evil; Blackstar has done nothing wrong, but is still treated like a criminal - StarClan. That is all.
Hope you guys enjoyed reading! Next is The Sight Abridged, Dawn Abridged once I get over how boring Midnight was.
